[Shenzhen, October 2022] – The world's largest single-phase energy storage station has officially commenced operations on the West Coast of the United States, marking a significant milestone in the global energy sector. This groundbreaking facility, developed by BYD, boasts an unprecedented storage capacity of nearly 17 gigawatt-hours (GWh), setting a new record in the field of energy storage.

Developed by BYD, a leader in renewable energy solutions, this state-of-the-art station is poised to enhance grid stability, support the integration of renewable energy sources, and advance the transition to sustainable energy.

 

The energy storage station is designed to store excess energy generated from renewable sources like solar and wind. This stored energy can then be released during periods of high demand or when renewable energy generation is low, ensuring a reliable and balanced energy supply. Key features of the facility include:

 

Advanced Battery Technology: The station utilizes cutting-edge battery technology, offering high efficiency, long cycle life, and enhanced safety features. As an independent entity, the storage station has signed a grid scheduling agreement directly with power dispatch agencies, making it location-independent and capable of peak shaving, frequency regulation, backup power, and plan tracking generation. Compared to energy storage paired with new energy sources, independent storage demands higher requirements for components and system integration.

BYD Cube T28: This project features the BYD Cube T28 Energy Storage Battery, the first liquid-cooled energy storage product in China to pass the UL9540A system-level certification with outstanding performance. It employs automotive-grade cooling system components, ensuring high safety, strong reliability, and long lifespan, and is compatible with global energy storage standards.

 

Scalability and Flexibility: The modular design allows for future expansions and upgrades, ensuring the facility can adapt to evolving energy needs.

 

Environmental Benefits: By enabling greater use of renewable energy, the station helps reduce carbon emissions and supports global climate goals. The independent energy storage station can store and dispatch enough electricity annually to power over 47,000 homes. Compared to natural gas power generation, it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 275,000 tons and carbon monoxide emissions by 47 tons each year, equivalent to removing the greenhouse gas emissions of 53,000 cars from the road.
